Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. The General Elections Commission (KPU) planned to consult with the government and the House of Representatives about the recent verdict of the Constitutional Court (MK) that may affect the 2024 elections process.
The verdict changed the existing legal provisions governing the presidential and vice-presidential age limit, allowing candidates to be either 40 years old or possess prior experience as a local leader.
During a press briefing in Jakarta on Monday (16/11/23) evening, Chairman of the General Elections Commission (KPU) Hasyim Asy'ari said, "KPU is mandated to formulate KPU Regulations (PKPU) overseeing the execution of electoral phases and is required to seek consultation with the DPR and the government through an official hearing."
He asserted that the KPU will inform both the government and the DPR to collaboratively devise a plan of action in light of the MK's verdict.
The MK's verdict has stirred public controvery, particularly because the justices had different opinions about it as Justices Enny Nurbaningsih and Daniel Yusmic P. Foekh had concurring opinions while Justices Wahiduddin Adams, Saldi Isra, Arief Hidayat, and Suhartoyo had dissenting opinions.
