Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. The 10th World Water Forum (WWF), scheduled in May 2024 in Bali, is seen as a pivotal moment for Indonesia and island nations to enhance access to clean drinking water, an official said on Monday (16/10/2023).
Indonesia will be the host of the 10th WWF, which is expected to attract leaders and representatives from 172 participating countries.
"Indonesia is committed to achieving 100 percent access to drinking water by 2030," Spokesperson of the Ministry of Public Works and Housing Endra S Atmawidjaja was quoted by antaranews.com as saying
The government has introduced various programs to bolster access to clean drinking water, including the Pamsimas program and the Community-Based Total Sanitation (STBM) program.
The Pamsimas program is a government initiative aimed at enhancing access to clean water and sanitation in 58,000 rural villages across Indonesia. The STBM Program focuses on improving sanitation access to eradicate the practice of open defecation.
Based on data from the United Nations (UN), approximately 2.2 billion people worldwide lacked access to safe drinking water in 2022. Among this figure, roughly 673 million individuals live in South Asia, and 263 million in Sub-Saharan Africa.
