Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. The General Elections Commission (KPU) has ruled that 16 registration documents submitted by presidential and vice-presidential hopefuls will not be made public without consent from the candidates.
The decision, set out in KPU Decree No. 731/2025, designates these documents as classified information for five years.
“The decree excludes certain candidate documents from disclosure, unless the individual provides written consent or the information relates to a public office position,” KPU Chair Mochammad Afifuddin confirmed on Monday (15/9/2025), as quoted by antaranews.com
The ruling is in line with Law No. 14/2008 on Public Information Disclosure, which allows secrecy if disclosure could harm greater public interest, he said
The 16 documents include ID cards, birth certificates, police clearance, medical records, wealth reports to the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK), bankruptcy status, tax records, criminal history statements, education certificates, resignation letters from state institutions, and loyalty pledges to the Constitution and Pancasila.
The move may spark public debate over transparency in the 2029 presidential race, as scrutiny of candidates’ integrity and eligibility has grown sharper in Indonesia’s political climate.
