Inp.polri.go.id - Yogyakarta. The Ministry of Law and Human Rights Regional Office in Yogyakarta has urged restaurant and café owners to stop using unlicensed music from flash drives, personal devices, or unauthorized streaming platforms.
“Music played in public businesses is a form of commercial use. It must be licensed through copyright holders or collective management organizations,” said Agung Rektono Seto ,the Head of the Ministry’s Regional Office in Yogyakarta,on Sunday (27/7/2025), as quoted by antaranews.com.
Many business owners still mistakenly treat background music as private use, Agung noted, adding that music enhances service atmosphere and requires legal clearance.
He warned that copyright violations may lead to legal consequences, reputational damage, and business disruption.
“Respecting music rights is part of building a lawful creative economy,” Agung said, stressing that thousands of Indonesian songwriters deserve fair royalties.
By using licensed music, business owners ensure legal protection while supporting the nation’s creative sector.
