Inp.polri.go.id - Malang. Malang City Sub-regional Police unveiled on Saturday (30/3/2024) the motive behind a 27-year-old woman's assault on a 3-year-old toddler.
The incident, which occurred on Thursday at the toddler’s family residence in the Permata Jingga area, Lowokwaru, Malang, went viral after the toddler’s mother, influencer Aghnia Punjabi, shared CCTV footage of the assault on her social media account.
Malang Police Head of Criminal Investigation Unit Assistant Superintendent Danang Yudanto said that the suspect, IPS, grew angry when the toddler refused medication for her scratches, resulting in the assault.
The suspect admitted to being frustrated, compounded by her sick family member's condition.
“However, this didn't justify the violence,” Chief Danang said, as reported by antaranews.com.
The investigation, handled by the Malang Police’s Women and Children's Services Unit, is scrutinizing CCTV footage for additional evidence of abuse.
Four witnesses, including the victim's parents and Aghnia's employees, have been questioned.
IPS faces charges under Child Protection laws, with a possible 5-year prison term and Rp100 million fine.
