Inp.polri.go.id - Jayapura. A Papua New Guinea (PNG) national was arrested by the South Jayapura Police Office for possessing homemade firearms and two rounds of 5.56 mm caliber ammunition.
Senior Superintendent Victor Mackbon, the Chief of the Jayapura City Sub-regional Police, disclosed on Saturday (30/3/2024) that the suspect, identified as RL, was arrested at his residence in the Hamadi area of South Jayapura, according to antaranews.com.
RL admitted to obtaining the homemade firearm in exchange for nine packages of marijuana valued at Rp30 million on 20 February 2024.
The exchange occurred with an individual named MLM, who resides in West Papua and is currently wanted by the authorities.
RL confessed that he intended to resell the homemade firearms in PNG for approximately Rp70 million. It was also revealed that he frequently entered Jayapura via sea routes, transporting marijuana for exchange, often for items like motorcycles.
Subsequently, RL was named as a suspect under Article 1 paragraph 1 no. 12 of Emergency Law No. 1951 following his confession.
