Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. The Jakarta Metro Jaya Regional Police's Water and Air Police Directorate deployed rapid response teams to Kebon Pala, East Jakarta, on Friday (20/1/2026) following severe flooding in the area.
"Our personnel immediately conducted evacuations and helped secure residents' valuables to ensure the police's presence is felt during this crisis," said Senior Superintendent Mustofa, the Director of Water and Air Police, as cited by antaranews.com.
Heavy rainfall throughout Thursday night caused water levels to surge to 100 centimeters by Friday morning, submerging residential homes and cutting off vital road access. Emergency teams utilized rubber boats and skiff boats to navigate the inundated streets, focusing on high-priority evacuations.
Among the rescues was the emergency evacuation of an infant to a safe shelter and the relocation of residents' vehicles to higher ground. Local officials reported that the floods began rising at 2 am, quickly overwhelming the low-lying neighborhood.
Police officers remain on-site to monitor fluctuating water levels and provide continuous logistical support as residents work to salvage their belongings from the rising tide.
