During a visit to the North Jakarta Mayor's office, Minister of Environment Hanif Faisol Nurofiq revealed that waste management in North Jakarta remains a serious concern for the Ministry of Environment. His office continues to monitor waste management in every sub-district and urban village in North Jakarta.

He emphasized that he would monitor waste management in elite areas in North Jakarta, such as Pantai Indah Kapuk and Kelapa Gading.

"Starting next week, the Mayor and I will begin the inspection of the area management process. This will include areas with relatively high waste generation, including business centers, hotels, restaurants, and cafes," he said, as reported by RRI on Thursday (7/10/2025).

He explained that elite areas are required to manage their waste independently. However, the techniques and procedures are regulated by the Jakarta Special Region Provincial Environmental Agency.

"Therefore, only waste management businesses registered with the Head of the Environmental Agency are authorized to manage waste, especially waste generated from these areas," he explained.

According to him, waste management in elite areas is being managed by the third parties. He believes these third parties frequently dump waste in Jakarta.

Therefore, third-party managers must have waste management facilities that comply with regulations, and elite area managers must manage their waste independently.
