Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. The Moskona 2025 Police Task Force rescued Papua Human Rights Commission (Komnas HAM) Chairman Frits Ramandey after an armed criminal group (KKB) opened fire during a search mission in West Papua on Sunday.
“During the humanitarian operation to find First Inspector Tomi Marbun at Sungai Rawara river, our team came under fire. Our Mobile Brigade officers immediately shielded and evacuated the Chairman,” said Indonesian National Police (INP) Public Relations Division Head of Public Information Brigadier General Trunoyudo Wisnu Andiko on Monday (28/4/2025).
Frits, who was accompanying the mission to ensure human rights standards, confirmed the attack occurred around 7.10 am. local time.
"We were bathing by the river when gunfire erupted," he said, adding he suffered minor injuries while escaping.
No fatalities were reported. Frits and his group were flown to Meyado Tactical Post for medical treatment and security, according to antaranews.com..
The task force, comprising police, military, and civil groups, was deployed to locate Tomi Marbun,who has been missing since December 2024.
