inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. The Ministry of Law and Human Rights stated that the majority of Generation Z, or Gen Z, in Indonesia are not interested in political parties.

The Director of State Administration of the General Legal Administration (AHU) Directorate General, Baroto, revealed that the young generation born between 1997-2012 were not interested in joining political parties because of the decline in trust regarding the credibility of political parties.

"Only one percent of Gen Z is interested in political parties, (or) entering parliament," he said on Wednesday (10/16/2024).

According to him, healthy political parties have many benefits and have extraordinary influence on the social life of society. Therefore, the Ministry of Law and Human Rights, as the ministry that ratifies the legal entity of political parties, continues to socialize the reconstruction of governance and strengthening the function of political parties. This is to improve Indonesian democracy so that it is attractive to all public, including Gen Z and students.

According to him, Gen Z will later become the successors of the nation who will be the decision makers of the country in the future. So whether they like it or not, they must be able to understand the function of political parties.

So far, there have been several problems with the legal entity of political parties, namely weak organizations and regulations, and also difficult to dissolve them.

The Ministry of Law and Human Rights noted that there are 76 political parties in Indonesia that are legal entities. Of that number, 44 political parties are recorded as active and 32 political parties are inactive.

Of the 44 active political parties, 18 participated in the general election (election) and 26 others did not. 

He believes that if these problems can be resolved, political parties can attract many people as it has an important role for the democracy of the state.
