Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. Survivors of Mount Lewotobi Laki-Laki eruption in East Flores, East Nusa Tenggara, have been offered two government-supported resettlement options to accommodate their needs and preferences.
Head of the National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) Suharyanto announced on Thursday (21/11/2024) that the choices include centralized resettlement, where the government provides move-in-ready homes on new land, and independent resettlement, where survivors rebuild on their own property with government assistance for housing and infrastructure.
“Of the 776 families affected, about 10% have chosen independent resettlement, while the majority prefer centralized relocation,” he said, as reported by antaranews.com.
These families hail from villages including Dulipali, Nobo, Klatanlo, Boru, Hokeng Jaya, and Nawokote.
Three potential centralized resettlement sites have been identified: Botongkarang-Noboleto, Kojarobet in Hewa, and Wukoh Lewoloroh on the East Flores-Sikka border. These areas are outside disaster-prone zones, providing safety and opportunities for farming and economic activities.
Suharyanto added that the site at Wukoh Lewoloroh still requires approval from the Ministry of Forestry, as it is classified as a protected forest.
“The government is committed to ensuring survivors can rebuild their lives in safe and sustainable locations,” he said.
