inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. The Financial Transaction Reports and Analysis Center (PPATK) assesses the need to strengthen multilateral diplomacy to eradicate online gambling, as many of these criminal practices utilize cross-border networks.

PPATK Deputy for Analysis and Examination, Danang Tri Hartono, stated that most of the funds from these illegal activities flow abroad.

"The money goes abroad, and our economy loses its circulation because of that. Multilateral diplomacy between countries definitely is vital in resolving this issue," said Danang, Wednesday (10/22/2025).

In a focus group discussion (FGD) themed "Building Digital Collaboration Free from Online Gambling," Danang stated that online gambling has become a silent killer of the national economy as it does not create added value domestically but instead causes losses to the public.

PPATK recorded that online gambling transactions in Indonesia reached IDR 927 trillion from 2017 to the first quarter of 2025.

This figure indicates that this illegal practice has become a systemic phenomenon that permeates all levels of society.

Muchtarul Huda, Director of Strategy and Policy for Digital Space Supervision at the Ministry of Communication and Digital, added that tackling online gambling requires a cross-sectoral and technology-based approach.

"We need an AI-based detection system, cross-agency database integration, and international cooperation to curb this widespread practice," explained Director Huda.

By 2025, Komdigi had handled more than 7.2 million pieces of online gambling content.

Fransiska Oei, Head of the Legal and Compliance Division of the National Banks Association, stated that the financial industry has positioned itself at the forefront of prevention by strengthening its detection system and reporting suspicious accounts to the Financial Transaction Reports and Analysis Center (PPATK).

"AI-based crawling technology can help accelerate the identification of accounts involved in online gambling networks," said Fransiska.

She added that the industry is also working to maintain public trust to prevent it from being eroded by system abuse by irresponsible parties.
