Inp.polri.go.id - Beijing. The Indonesian Consulate General in Guangzhou has confirmed that no Indonesian citizens were affected by a car-ramming incident in Zhuhai, Guangdong, China, which left 35 people dead and 43 injured. The attack occurred Monday night outside a stadium, where crowds had gathered for recreational activities.

“After confirmation from local authorities, we can verify there were no foreign nationals involved, including no Indonesian nationals,” Consul General Ben Perkasa Drajat said in a statement issued on Wednesday (13/11/2024).

Chinese police identified the suspect as a 62-year-old man named Fan, who allegedly drove his SUV into a crowd near the sports complex before attempting to harm himself. Police subdued him at the scene; he remains in a coma due to self-inflicted injuries. Authorities report that Fan’s motive appears linked to a personal grievance over asset distribution in his recent divorce.

Responding to the incident, President Xi Jinping called for urgent measures to prevent similar attacks, instructing officials to “take all necessary steps” to assist victims and ensure public safety.
