Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. Minister of Law, Supratman Andi Agtas, clarified that songs played at weddings and other non-commercial events are exempt from royalty payments.
“There are none, if it’s a wedding, there are no royalties,” he said, as reported by antaranews.com on Tuesday (19/8/2025).
The Minister stressed that royalties only apply to commercial public spaces, such as cafés, and emphasized that obligations for business owners are guided by the Copyright Law and the Berne Convention. However, he said small and medium enterprises (SMEs) must not be burdened.
Minister Supratman also underlined that Indonesia’s national anthem Indonesia Raya and other patriotic songs are in the public domain and explicitly excluded from royalty charges under Article 43 of the Copyright Law.
“This has long been clear in the law. National songs, especially Indonesia Raya, are exempt from royalties,” he said, dismissing public confusion.
