North Kalimantan Regional Police Prepares Preventive Steps to Anticipate Forest and Land Fires

There are six priorities areas of Indoesia National Police for the priority of handling forest and land fires. They are Riau, West Kalimantan, East Kalimantan, Central Kalimantan and South Sumatera Regional Police areas. Even so, North Kalimantan remains vigilant and early anticipates," Head of Public Affairs of North Kalimantan Regional Police, Police Grand Commissioner Budi Rachmat explained in Tanjung Selor, Thursday, (08/05/21). In addition to establishing Forest and Land Fire Task Force, North Kalimantan Regional Police also takes preventive step by intensifying socialization of the prohibition on land clearing by burning and sanctions will be taken according to regulations, including the Environmental Law and Forestry Law. North Kalimantan Regional Police also optimizes its advanced technology, and one them is “Digital Smoke” application which is able to detect hot spots in North Kalimantan area. "Yes, for the monitoring of forest and land fire. The application is in Command Center room of North Kalimantan Regional Police and managed by operations bureau of North Kalimatan Regional Police," the Intermediate Officer of North Kalimantan Regional said. The construction of the facility is form of anticipation taken by North Kalimantan Regional Police utilizing central fund for forest and land fires that always lurk in every dry season. It is hoped with the existence of this facility, threat of forest and land fires in North Kalimantan can be anticipated. The threat of forest and land fires every year during the dry season is getting higher because it is related to wider land clearing for various activities. Currently, some areas have entered dry season, including North Kalimantan, so preparation is needed to anticipate this threat. Indonesia National Police is wary of forest and land fire because Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) predicts some parts of Indonesia will enter dry season between May and July, with the peak starting in August 2021. The government's seriousness in dealing with forest and land fire issue, which has now become "routine disaster" every dry season, can be seen with the signing of Joint Decree (SKB) for Integrated Law Enforcement for the Crime of Forest and/or Land Fires between Indonesia National Police, Ministry of Environment and Attorney General's Office in Jakarta, Thursday (08/05/2020) The SKB was signed by Minister of Environment and Forestry (LHK) Siti Nurbaya, National Police Chief Gen. Pol Listyo Sigit, and Attorney General of the Republic of Indonesia ST Burhanuddin, attended by Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs Mahfud MD. The SKB aims to have better coordination and communication in law enforcement of forest and land fires between the Police and the Prosecutor's Office. After the police conduct their investigation and investigation, the National Police will coordinate with the prosecutor's office regarding the expert witnesses involved and other instructions to avoid going back and forth between case file
