Inp.polri.go.id - Ende. The East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) Water and AIr Police arrested a suspect for using explosives in fishing during the Operation Illegal Fishing Turangga 2024 in Maukaro waters on Wednesday (9/10/2024).

“We received tips about frequent explosive fishing activities around Kaburea waters and, in response, the KP.P Ndao 3009 crew conducted an investigation,” said Senior Superintendent Irwan Deffi Nasution, the Head of the NTT Water and Air Police, 

At around 9 am local time, the patrol team spotted a colorless motorboat operated by one individual. This person was seen swimming and pulling the boat, likely scouting for fish. Soon after, he threw an object into the water, followed by an explosion. The suspect then dove to collect the fish killed by the blast.

Upon approaching, the patrol team found the suspect underwater. A search of the motorboat uncovered two fishing bombs in beer bottles, three detonators, mosquito repellent pieces, and a mixed catch of fish. 

The suspect, identified as K from Nioniba, was taken to the Marnit Sikka Police Office for further investigation.

Chief Irwan emphasized the importance of ongoing patrols to combat illegal fishing practices that threaten marine ecosystems.
