Inp.polri.go.id - Batam. The Riau Islands Regional Police will begin Operation Zebra Seligi 2025 on 17 to 30 November 2025, prioritizing traffic safety education over punitive measures as Indonesia rolls out the nationwide safety operation.
“This year’s Operation Zebra is similar to previous years. The main goal is to reduce accidents, ease congestion, and improve road safety by prioritizing education and public outreach,” said Superintendent Gathut Bowo Supriyano, the Deputy Director of Traffic at the Riau Islands Police, on Sunday (16/11/2025), as reported by antaranews.comi.
The 14-day operation combines pre-emptive, preventive, and law enforcement actions, with sanctions applied only for severe violations that endanger road users. Traffic officers will intensify education campaigns and increase patrols in Batam’s accident-prone areas, including Hang Tuah Road, Sudirman Road, and Laksamana Bintan Road, according to antaranews.com.
Operation Zebra serves as a strategic lead-up to the year-end Operation Lilin, focusing on the safety of pedestrians—the most vulnerable group. Data show 639,739 traffic violations nationwide in the past three months, mostly involving motorcycle riders aged 26–45.
