Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. The Communication and Digital Minister Meutya Hafid emphasized the importance of parents in guiding children to be wise in the digital space by understanding digital literacy properly.

"Literacy itself is not enough as it needs proper regulations. So now here, we are working on the regulations while parents should be working on teaching their children digital literacy. Schools also are not a place only to learn how to read and count, but also a place to learn how to be a wise netizen," says Meutya on Wednesday (2/26/2025).

She said that currently there are various applications that can help parents and teachers monitor their children's online activities without having to interfere too much with their privacy. One example is Google Family Link, which allows parents to monitor their children's activities in the digital world. This application allows monitoring of applications downloaded by children simply by linking their Gmail accounts.

In front of the students present, the Minister of Communication and Digital advised them to utilize technology to pursue their dreams. She emphasized that the government continues to strive to create a safe digital space for Indonesian children.

"No child in Indonesia should have their dreams hindered by an unsafe digital space. Currently, many children have difficulty concentrating in school or are even exposed to online crimes. I will not explain the details, but the evidence is already everywhere around us. I believe that digital space should help Indonesian children achieve their dreams, not take them away," said the Minister of Communication and Digital.

Meutya also appreciated the providers of digital platforms that have contributed to providing education and creating a safer digital ecosystem for children.

"We want digital platforms to take a bigger role in protecting children by presenting security as the default standard. Technology must be able to protect them from negative content," explains Meutya.

She also encouraged providers of digital platforms to be more active in educating teachers and parents.

"Create an educational program for parents and teachers. I'm sure some of you have done it, but if this activity is expanded, it will get an extraordinary response from educators in Indonesia. Let's make technology a friend to children, not a threat," conclude Meutya.
