Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. Indonesia's badminton federation (PBSI) has filed an official protest to the Badminton World Federation (BWF) over a disputed call during the Sudirman Cup group stage match against Denmark.
“The protest was submitted by our Head of International Relations, Bambang Roedyanto, following the incident involving Rinov Rivaldy and Gloria Emanuelle Widjaja,” said PBSI spokesperson Yuni Kartika on Friday (2/5/2025).
Controversy arose when the umpire ruled that a shuttlecock touched Rinov’s racket at game point, handing Denmark the first game 22-20. Video replays suggested no contact had occurred. PBSI sent the footage to BWF as evidence, according to antaranews.com.
Despite the pair’s eventual three-game loss, Indonesia won the tie 4-1 and advanced as Group D winners. Rinov admitted the call disrupted their momentum, calling it “very unfair.”
BWF has acknowledged receipt of the protest and said that an investigation is underway. Indonesia is set to face Thailand in the quarterfinals on Friday.
