inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. The Batam-Rempang-Galang (Barelang) Sub-regional Police along with the Batam City Government are strengthening traffic safety education through a traffic curriculum in public elementary and junior high schools.
Barelang Sub-regional Police Traffic Unit Chief, Police Assistant Superintendent Afiditya Arief Wibowo, stated that the program launched in December 2025.
"We launched the traffic curriculum last December, so it's been running for one semester. We have also signed a memorandum of understanding with the Education Office regarding the program," explained Afiditya on Thursday (6/4/2026).
He explained that the program aims to develop the children to be disciplined in traffic behavior from an early age.
"We want to develop children's character from an early age to be disciplined in traffic. Introduction to traffic discipline needs to start early," said Afiditya.
In its implementation, the Traffic Unit provides training to teachers through the Training of Trainers (TOT) program, specifically for Pancasila and Citizenship Education (PPKn) teachers.
Traffic safety materials are then integrated into classroom learning.
In addition to classroom instruction, the Barelang Sub-regional Police Traffic Unit has also established traffic corners in several schools as a visual medium to introduce various traffic signs to students.
As a form of support for this program, the unit has distributed 2,500 traffic safety textbooks to 65 junior high schools and 145 public elementary schools in Batam, a total of 210 schools.
Through this program, the Barelang Sub-regional Police hope that awareness of traffic regulations can be instilled from an early age, thereby reducing the number of traffic violations and accidents in the city.
