inp.polri.go.id - Bandung. The Bandung Sub-regional City Police have uncovered a case of subsidized LPG misuse involving the transfer of 3-kilogram gas cylinders to portable gas cylinders for resale. In this case, police arrested a man identified as MR (25) in Baleendah District, Bandung Regency.

Bandung Sub-regional City Police Chief, Senior Superintendent Tri Suhartanto, explained in Bandung on Thursday (10/29/2026) that the suspect ran a portable gas filling business from his home in Bojong Malaka Village, Baleendah District.

The case began with public reports of people filling portable gas cylinders with subsidized LPG. Following up on this information, police conducted an investigation and ultimately apprehended MR on Monday (10/26/2026). at night while conducting a transaction to sell portable gas from the transfer of 3-kilogram LPG cylinders.

At the scene, police confiscated several pieces of evidence, including five filled 3-kilogram LPG cylinders, five empty 3-kilogram LPG cylinders, two filling hoses, a DT580 digital scale, and an axe used to cut the leaking portable gas cylinders.

Officers also seized two cartons of filled portable gas, 126 cartons of empty portable gas cylinders, 11 sacks of empty portable gas cylinders, and a cell phone belonging to the suspect.

Tri explained that the suspect produced portable gas based on orders received through social media. The number of cylinders filled each day was adjusted to consumer demand. Based on the suspect's confession, this operation had been going on since 2024.

"So, it's important to inform the public that it's not portable gas that's prohibited. It's the method of misusing the gas that's prohibited," he said.

According to Tri, this practice not only has the potential to harm the state and the public entitled to subsidies, but also endangers consumers. This is because the gas transfer is carried out without proper safety standards.
