inp.polri.go.id - Batam. Riau Islands Regional Police Chief Inspector General Asep Safrudin, appealed to all levels of society in Batam City to maintain calm, unity, and a conducive situation amidst the current social and government turbulence.

Responding to the various differing views emerging in the public conversation, Asep emphasized that diversity in Riau Islands, particularly Batam, is a strength, not a divider. He emphasized the importance of the "Riau Islands, a Shared Home" philosophy as a foundation for interactions within the community.

Asep emphasized the importance of maintaining Batam City's dignity as a center of economic growth that requires strong security and stability. He reminded everyone that differences in political and social views are normal, but must remain within the law.

"We must re-embrace the profound meaning of Bhinneka Tunggal Ika. Different but still united as one is not just a slogan, but our commitment to remain grounded in one great interest: national unity," he explained on Monday (1/26/2020).

In the Riau Islands, especially in Batam, said the Regional Police Chief, despite coming from different backgrounds, everyone is one big family living in the same house.

He assured that the police fully supports the ongoing administration led by Mayor Amsakar Ahmad and Deputy Mayor Li Claudia Chandra. Asep also hoped the public would give the government space to work and conduct objective evaluations.

"Don't let provocative narratives divide us. The essence of Bhinneka Tunggal Ika (Unity in Diversity) teaches us to find common ground (kalimatun sawa) amidst differences, not widen the gap. Let's demonstrate that the people of Batam are intelligent, mature, and uphold the values of tolerance," he said.
