Inp.polri.go.id - Mojokerto. The East Java Regional Police are investigating an explosion at a house in Sumolawang Village, Puri District, that claimed the lives of a 41-year-old woman and her 3-year-old nephew on Monday morning (13/1/2025).

Mojokerto Sub-regional Police Chief Superintendent Ihram Kustarto confirmed that forensic experts from the East Java Police are examining the scene of the explosion, which occurred around 9 am.

“The investigation is ongoing. We ask for time to determine the cause of the explosion,” he said, as quoted by antaranews.com.

The victims were relatives of the homeowner, whose property was severely damaged in the incident.  They lived in adjacent houses. The explosion not only destroyed the house where it occurred but also damaged a neighboring property. 

At the scene, police found a 3-kilogram LPG cylinder and various electronic devices. It is believed the homeowner, a police officer assigned to Dlanggu Police Office, had a hobby of working with electronics.

The officer is currently under internal review by the Mojokerto Police Criminal Investigation Unit and the Internal Affairs Unit.
