Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. The Indonesian National Police (INP) announced on Monday (17/5/2026) that they are actively investigating the alleged confinement and physical assault of an Indonesian citizen by an illegal tin mining syndicate operating in Malaysia.
Law enforcement agencies are currently coordinating closely to secure the victim's safety and handle the cross-border legal process.
"The Directorate for Specific Crimes is currently coordinating rescue and evacuation efforts with the International Relations Division and the Police Attaché at the Indonesian Embassy in Malaysia," said Brigadier General Mohammad Irhamni, the Director of Specific Crimes at the Criminal Investigation Agency, as cited by antaranews.com.
The case unfolded when the Police Attaché at the Indonesian Embassy in Kuala Lumpur received a report on Saturday, regarding a detained Indonesian citizen from Prabumulih, South Sumatra, identified by the initials DC. Initial reports indicated that the victim suffered a broken leg alongside severe hand and head injuries inflicted by suspected illegal tin smugglers.
Following cross-jurisdictional verification with Malaysian authorities, the Sepang District Police Headquarters (IPD Sepang) deployed officers from the Sungai Pelek Police Station to successfully rescue DC. Early testimonies reveal the victim was coerced into trafficking tin from Indonesia before being lured to Malaysia, where the assault took place.
