Police Member in Palu Awarded for Transforming Empty Garbage Dump Land to Literacy Space

inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. Brigadier Reply, member of Uniformed Reguler Police Corps of Sector Police Tawaeli receives award from the Central Sulawesi Regional Police for his dedication in nurturing the next generation of Indonesia.

His dedication showed by initiating in building the children’s interest in reading and transforming an empty land formerly used for garbage dump to book haven for children.

The book haven was then named Taman Baca Napande, which was inaugurated in 2024 thanks to a collaboration with the district government and the police. The newly transformed place has now become the place for kids to read, play, and meet.

“This place was used to be a garbage dump. I saw its potential and want to create a safe space for kids and people to learn and study,” says Reply in his statement.

People welcomed and were grateful for the place. The district head of Baiya, Muhammad Zakaria, says that the new literacy space has now become a productive space in designing and planning the community's program.

On the other hand, the Chief of Palu Sub-regional City Police, Senior Superintendent Deny Abrahams gave his appreciation for the contribution of Reply.

“We are not here only to arrest criminals, but we are also here to provide social solutions. Reply showed that a humanist approach can bring a real change,” remarks Deny.
