Inp.polri.go.id – Jakarta. Police believes digital literacy plays a huge role in suppressing sexual harassment on minor. Parents are tasked to also giving their children education while also monitoring their child’s activities. “These children need to be taught on how to behave in social media because we mostly handle cases that involves students who are using the social media,” says Head of Sub-Sector Indonesian Automatic Fingerprint Identification System Central Secretary Resources, Rita Wulandari Wibowo quoted from Antara, Wednesday (10/25/2023). She stated that the lack of behavioral literacy in social media made the children vulnerable to sexual harassment by grooming. The children would not be aware that they are being groomed if they were not educated. Rita states there should be measures to detect predator accounts. Rita told one of her experience where the child predators made more than one accounts in social media by using the identity of the child school teacher. When the child was successfully manipulated, the victim was then asked to took immoral pictures of themselves which are harassing the child, and also endanger the victim. The mental damage caused by the incident shook the victim to the core and which led to suicidal acts. With the stark reminder of the danger, she asked all elements to work together in educating our next generation on how to act and behave in digital spaces. “I urge to all parents to educate your children on how to act and behave in social media, because we alone cannot prevent the immoral act of child molester,” says Rita.
