inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. President Prabowo Subianto inaugurated the Pertamina Refinery Development Master Plan (RDMP) at Refinery Unit (RU) V Balikpapan, East Kalimantan, Indonesia's largest oil refinery.
"Today, Monday, January 12, 2026, I, Prabowo Subianto, President of the Republic of Indonesia, hereby inaugurate the Pertamina RDMP Balikpapan Integrated Energy Infrastructure," said President Prabowo on Monday (1/12/2026).
He noted that the last RDMP inauguration took place in 1994, or 32 years ago. He welcomed the inauguration, as it is expected to reduce dependence on imported fuel oil (BBM).
President Prabowo stated that Indonesia is blessed with abundant natural resources, including energy sources such as palm oil for biodiesel, geothermal energy, solar energy, and hydropower.
Therefore, these resources must be optimally managed to eliminate dependence on other countries.
"We must not depend on external sources for our energy. We want to be independent as we are capable. We have it all, blessed by the God Almighty," said President Prabowo.
Meanwhile, Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM), Bahlil Lahadahlia, stated that the Balikpapan Refinery Development Project (RDMP) is the largest in Indonesia.
The Balikpapan RDMP has a total investment equivalent to IDR 123 trillion. The project aims to modernize existing refineries, increasing oil processing capacity, producing high-quality, environmentally friendly fuels, encouraging the downstreaming of the petrochemical industry, and strengthening national energy security.
The Balikpapan RDMP will allow the refinery to process up to 360,000 barrels of oil per day. This capacity is equivalent to 22-25 percent, or a quarter, of national demand.
