Inp.polri.go.id - Putrajaya. President Prabowo Subianto and Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim discussed the implications of U.S. President Donald Trump’s new import tariff policy on ASEAN during President Prabowo’s courtesy visit in Malaysia on Sunday (6/4/2025).
The leaders also exchanged views on other regional issues, including coordinated ASEAN humanitarian assistance for victims of the recent earthquake in Myanmar.
“Among other matters, we spoke about the recent U.S. tariff measures affecting ASEAN countries and joint efforts to assist those impacted by natural disasters in Myanmar,” PM Anwar said on social media, as quoted by antaranews.com.
While both leaders have yet to disclose specific ASEAN responses to the new tariff policy, their meeting highlighted shared concerns over regional economic stability.
President Trump’s reciprocal tariff policy, announced on 2 April 2025, targets several countries including Indonesia and is set to take effect three days after the announcement.
President Prabowo was accompanied by Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya and Personal Secretary Rizky Irmansyah.
