Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. President Prabowo Subianto and Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi reaffirmed their commitment to advancing the principles of moderate Islam as part of a united effort to combat extremism and Islamophobia.
The leaders raised their commitment during a bilateral meeting at the Al Ittihadiya Presidential Palace in Cairo on Wednesday (18/12/2024).
“We must champion a tolerant and peaceful Islam that protects all of humanity—not one marked by suspicion or hatred,” said President Prabowo, as quoted by antaranews.com.
He stressed that Islam is fundamentally a religion of peace and called for collective action to eliminate prejudice and fear of the faith globally.
President Prabowo also expressed gratitude to Egypt for its support of over 15,000 Indonesian students studying there, many at Al-Azhar University. He emphasized the need to strengthen educational ties, including expanding opportunities for Indonesian students.
In addition, the discussions of both presidents also focused on key areas such as trade, technology, education, defense, and tourism.
