Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. President Prabowo Subianto said the government is continuing to monitor disaster conditions across several regions before deciding whether to declare a national disaster emergency, following increasing public and parliamentary pressure.

“We keep monitoring, we continue sending assistance. We will assess the situation,” he told reporters after attending Bank Indonesia’s Annual Meeting (PTBI) in Jakarta on Friday (28/11/2025), when asked about demands for a national emergency status in response to widespread floods in Sumatra.

The president said the government’s immediate focus is delivering aid to affected areas while field assessments continue. Earlier in his PTBI remarks, he expressed solidarity with disaster-hit communities and underscored the urgency of environmental protection amid climate change, as reported by antaranews.com.

Before PTBI, President Prabowo also highlighted climate issues at the National Teachers’ Day commemoration, urging stronger environmental literacy in education and stressing the need to protect forests, prevent illegal logging, and maintain clean rivers.

Lawmakers, political groups, and civil society have urged a national emergency declaration, arguing that damage in North Sumatra, West Sumatra, and Aceh has exceeded local administration capacity.
