Inp.polri.go.id - Karawang. President Prabowo Subianto announced that Indonesia could achieve energy self-sufficiency within five to six years, during the groundbreaking of an Integrated Electric Vehicle Battery Ecosystem project in Karawang, West Java, on Sunday (29/6/2025).
“I’ve been informed by experts that our nation can genuinely achieve energy self-sufficiency—and in my calculation, it won’t take long. Five years, six at the latest,” he said, as quoted by antaranews.com.
The president emphasized the strategic importance of solar energy and battery storage technology in achieving this goal. The Karawang facility, he said, will play a central role in storing and distributing solar power efficiently.
Currently, Indonesia’s renewable infrastructure in the area produces 15 gigawatts, but to reach full energy independence, the country needs at least 100 gigawatts. President Prabowo called for scaling up such projects across the nation.
