Inp.polri.go.id - Jembrana. More than 250 pairs of racing buffalo stormed the track at the Makepung Kapolda Bali Cup, a traditional buffalo race held in Jembrana, Bali, on Sunday (29/6/2925) to mark the 79th Bhayangkara Day anniversary.

Bali Regional Police Chief Inspector General Daniel Adityajaya officially opened the race at the All in One Circuit, Pengambengan Village, emphasizing the importance of preserving makepung as a living local tradition.

“Makepung carries the spirit of togetherness, mutual cooperation, and sportsmanship. We hope this event becomes an ongoing tradition in Jembrana,” he said, as quoted by antaranews.com.

The competition divided racers into two traditional groups: West Ijogading and East Ijogading.

Jembrana Regent I Made Kembang Hartawan highlighted makepung as not only a cultural asset but also a unique tourism attraction.

“This kind of buffalo race is exclusive to Jembrana. It enhances tourism and supports agriculture and livestock sectors,” he said.

Despite modern machinery replacing many traditional tools, he added, makepung helps maintain the buffalo farming tradition and encourages younger generations to engage with local heritage.
