Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. Minister of Law Supratman Andi Agtas said on Friday (1/8/2025) that President Prabowo Subianto remains committed to fighting corruption despite issuing an amnesty and an abolition to two convicted figures.
“Don’t worry, the President will never back down from corruption eradication,” he said during a press conference in Jakarta, following the presidential decrees.
President Prabowo granted amnesty to 1,178 people, including Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI-P) Secretary General Hasto Kristiyanto, convicted of bribery, and granted abolition to former Minister of Trade Tom Lembong, convicted in a sugar import corruption case.
Minister Supratman emphasized the decisions were driven by reconciliation and national unity, not political interests.
“This is purely a presidential prerogative,” he said.
The minister stressed that neither amnesty nor abolition requires final court verdicts. The move, according to Minister Supratman, reflects the President’s hope for all political forces to unite in rebuilding the nation ahead of Indonesia’s 80th Independence Day and the 2045 Vision.
“This is about moving forward together,” he asserted.
