Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. Minister of Defense Sjafrie Sjamsoeddin revealed Saturday (31/1/2026) that President Prabowo Subianto intends to replace the boards of directors across the State-Owned Banks Association (Himbara).
The decision stemmed from government concerns that state banks have prioritized credit for large corporations over small businesses, hindering the nation's economic sovereignty and failing to maximize state returns.
"Himbara banks currently favor large entrepreneurs over small ones for credit distribution. Consequently, the President has decided to replace all Himbara directors," Minister Sjafrie said during a state defense retreat in Bogor, as reported by antaranews.com
The Minister explained that the upcoming selection process will be rigorous, prioritizing intellectual capability, practical experience, and nationalistic integrity over long-term tenure within state enterprises. The government aims to recruit a "militant and credible" younger generation of leaders to navigate the country’s economic future.
This move came after previous warnings from President Prabowo regarding the effectiveness of Export Proceeds (DHE) management and general state-owned enterprises profitability, signaling a major structural "clean-up" of Indonesia's state-owned financial institutions.
