inp.polri.go.id - Yogyakarta. Vice Minister of Health, Benyamin Paulus Octavianus, confirmed that the Indonesia still has zero case of Nipah virus.
"It hasn't reached Indonesia yet," said the Vice Minister of Health, as reported by Antaranews, Thursday (1/29/2026).
Vice Minister Benyamin explained that the Nipah virus has been known since 1998 and that the number of cases globally remains limited.
He revealed that this year, only two cases have been reported in India, although the death rate from the virus is relatively high.
"The number of cases worldwide has not yet reached 1,000. And, it hasn't reached Indonesia," he assured.
According to him, the Indian government immediately took strict measures to prevent the spread of the virus to other countries. Meanwhile, Thailand, as a transit country, has also increased vigilance through screening.
"India immediately implemented a lockdown. They also didn't want the cases to travel to other countries. But Thailand, as a transit point, immediately took precautions," Benyamin said.
Regarding anticipatory measures domestically, Vice Minister Benyamin stated that Indonesia already has detection mechanisms in place at airports, including monitoring passengers' body temperatures.
However, Benyamin emphasized that strict screening, like that implemented during the COVID-19 pandemic, has not yet been implemented.
