inp.polri.go.id - Yogyakarta. The protest held in front of the Yogyakarta Regional Police Headquarters (Polda Yogyakarta) today ended in chaos and was marked by damage to the eastern fence of the Police Headquarters. However, the situation was generally under control by police officers, and the situation in Yogyakarta remains safe and conducive.

Head of Public Relations of Yogyakarta Regional Police, Senior Superintendent Ihsan, expressed his condolences for the incident in Tual, Maluku, which served as the backdrop for the protest.

"We, from the Yogyakarta Regional Police, offer our deepest condolences to the families of the victims of the incident in Tual, Maluku. May the deceased's good deeds be accepted and the families left behind be given strength and fortitude," he said.

Regarding the protest, Ihsan expressed his regret that the demonstration, which began as a protest to convey aspirations, ended in chaos and was accompanied by damage to facilities.

"We regret that the protest ended in chaos and that the eastern fence of our headquarters was damaged. However, overall, the situation was under control by officers on the ground," he explained.

He also expressed his appreciation to the Yogyakarta community, including the Jaga Warga (Citizen Guard) unit, who collaborated with the authorities in maintaining public order and security.

He stated that the security approach prioritized local wisdom and Javanese culture. Officers, he said, remained patient and persuasive despite facing a mob that acted anarchically.

During the operation, officers detained three students. However, they were returned to the rectorate at 10:30 PM after coordination with the campus.

Furthermore, Ihsan emphasized that circulating information regarding the firing of tear gas or warning shots is false.

"We emphasize that during the security operation, officers were not equipped with weapons. The sounds heard at the location were from firecrackers carried by the demonstrators," he asserted.

Currently, the situation in front of the Yogyakarta Regional Police Headquarters is reported to be safe and under control. Traffic flow has returned to normal, and the general security and public order situation in the Yogyakarta Special Region is conducive.
