inp.polri.go.id - Kupang. The East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) Regional Police have issued an appeal to the public to be more careful for potential extreme weather in several areas following the erosion of the shoulder of the Welamosa-Maukaro North Trans-Crossroad due to heavy rainfall in Ende Regency.
The incident occurred in Maumeri Hamlet, Wewaria Village, Wewaria District, after heavy rains lashed the area on Sunday (1/11/2026).
Monitoring results showed that approximately 100 meters of the road shoulder had eroded due to the strong flow of water from a nearby river.
The Head of Public Relations of the NTT Regional Police, Senior Superintendent Henry Novika Chandra, explained that the road's proximity to the river makes it highly vulnerable to damage during heavy rainfall.
"The weather remains unpredictable and there is potential for heavy rain. We urge the public, especially road users and residents living in flood-prone areas, to remain vigilant for potential landslides and subsequent flooding," warned Henry on Monday (1/12/2025).
Despite the damage, the road is still temporarily passable by two-wheeled vehicles, four-wheeled vehicles, and six-wheeled vehicles, as well as pedestrians, using the remaining shoulder. However, the narrow and slippery road conditions require drivers to travel at low speeds and with extreme caution.
Police personnel have been deployed to the location to provide security and prevent accidents. Police have also installed police tape as a warning to road users.
The NTT Regional Police will continue to coordinate with the Ende Regency Government and relevant agencies to monitor road conditions and take further action to ensure smooth traffic flow and public safety.
