Riau Islands Regional Police Chief Visits Injured Personnel After Protest

Inp.polri.go.id - Batam. Riau Islands Police Chief Inspector General Tabana Bangun paid a visit to the Bhayangkara Batam Hospital (RSBB) to extend his support to injured personnel from both the police and security teams involved in a recent protest outside the BP Batam office.
"Twelve police personnel received medical examination at RSBB, with ten already discharged, and two undergoing treatment. Two BP Batam personnel and four personnel  of the Public Order Agency (Satpol PP) are currently under care at Bhayangkara Hospital Batam," he said on Tuesday (12/9/23). The General emphasized the Riau  Islands Regional Police's commitment to freedom of expression but expressed disappointment with the demonstration's outcome in front of the BP Batam office. He underlined that security measures were carried out in full compliance with the law to maintain order, protect the public, and uphold the rule of law. "Security forces have a duty to ensure public safety. We've implemented our actions in accordance with the law, and those who breach regulations will face legal consequences. We are currently investigating around 40 individuals suspected of involvement," the Gneraal explained . To date, 42 individuals have been apprehended, with 14 of them being handled by the Riau Islands Regional Police and 28 by the Barelang Police. Some of them are suspected of drug-related offenses, and a significant portion hail from locations outside Rempang Island, including Batam and other areas. Senior Superintendent Zahwani Pandra Arsyad,, Head of Public Relations for the Riau Islands Regional Police, noted that Deputy Chief of Police Brigadier General Asep Safrudin  had also visited earlier on Monday (12/9/23). "The objective of these visits is to demonstrate solidarity with our personnel involved. We call upon all parties to jointly contribute to maintaining a safe and peaceful environment. Any actions promoting anarchy or violating the law will face resolute legal action. We hope to restore peace in Batam and the entire Riau Islands Province," he said. (rd/pr/nm)
