Inp.polri.go.id – Pekanbaru. The Riau Regional Police's Directorate of Water and Air Police managed to thwart the smuggling of illegal logs in the waters of the Meranti Islands. The illegal wood will be smuggled to various places, even to Malaysia.
Riau Regional Police Chief, Pol. Inspector General Agung Setya Imam Effendi said seven suspects were arrested by police officers in Bengkalis waters who were carrying illegal logs by boat. They had the initials LH, Sa, MA, J, BI, S, and A.
The arrests were made in several places in the Meranti Islands. The two-star general said the wood would be brought to Indragiri Hilir Regency, Bengkalis. The wood was also brought to the Karimun Islands Regency, Riau Islands Province, to Malaysia.
This wood will be brought to Malaysia. Quite a lot of it is brought, including processed wood for shipbuilding purposes and mangrove logs needed to maintain abrasion on the coast, explained the Riau Police Chief, Wednesday (06/30/2021).
The two-star general explained that there were 71 cubic meters of mangrove logs that were secured and 52 cubic meters of processed wood of the Meranti type.
"The number of illegal logs that were secured was 50,000 logs. These were obtained by the suspects illegally by illegal logging in the Meranti Islands," explained the Riau Regional Police Chief.
"For this illegal logging, we have named seven suspects, where their role is the captain of the ship, the owner of the timber and the crew of the ship. We suspect them with the Constitution 18 of 2013 concerning the prevention and destruction of forests with the threat of imprisonment for five years," explained Riau Regional Police Chief.
