inp.polri.go.id – Pekanbaru. The Riau Regional Police managed to arrest four people selling Sumatran tiger skins (Panthera tigris sumatra). The four perpetrators have the initials MY (48), who is a housewife, SY (62), SH (48) and RS (50).
The arrest was made on Friday, September 24, 2021, in the morning at one of the gas stations located at Simpang Kubang, Siak Hulu District, Kampar Regency.
Head of Public Relations of the Riau Regional Police, Pol. Grand Commissioner Sunarto explained that the arrests involved a joint team from the Directorate of Special Criminal Investigation (Ditreskrimsus) of the Riau Regional Police, the Riau Natural Resources Conservation Center, and the Regional II Section of the Regional Division II of the Law Enforcement Center at Sumatra.
The Head of Public Relations of the Riau Regional Police explained that the arrest began with information from the public regarding the sale of the organs of a protected animal, namely the Sumatran tiger.
"The perpetrator admitted that the goods will be sold to buyers for 30 to 50 million. Currently, the perpetrators and the evidence have been secured for the investigation process, "explained the Head of Public Relations of the Riau Regional Police.
The perpetrators admitted to capturing the Sumatran tiger by being snared. As a result of his actions, the perpetrators are now detained at the Riau Regional Police Headquarters.
The perpetrators are threatened with Article 21 paragraph (2) letter d, following Article 40 paragraph (2) of Law No. 5/1990 concerning the conservation of Biological Natural Resources and their Ecosystems.
