"The Philippine Peso has weakened by 6.58%, the Thai Baht by 5.04%, and the Indian Rupee by 4.32%. Similarly, the Chilean Peso fell by 4.24%, the Indonesian Rupiah by 3.65%, and the Korean Won by 2.29%," said Erwin Gunawan Hutapea, the Head of the Monetary and Securities Asset Management Department at Bank Indonesia, on Tuesday (5/5/2026), as cited by antaranews.com..

To maintain exchange rate stability in accordance with its fundamental value, Bank Indonesia confirmed its active presence in the market. The central bank is optimizing interventions through various channels, including domestic non-deliverable forwards (DNDF), spot transactions, and the purchase of Government Securities (SBN) in the secondary market.

As of Tuesday morning, the US Dollar stood at approximately Rp17,426 on the global spot market. Despite a recent decrease in foreign exchange reserves to $148.2 billion in March 2026, Bank Indonesia assured that the current levels remain sufficient. This reserve is equivalent to 6.0 months of imports, well above the international adequacy standard of 3 months, providing a solid buffer against external volatility.
