Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. The Rupiah breached the psychological threshold of Rp 17,002 per US Dollar on Monday (30/3/2026) as escalating military hostilities between US-Israeli forces and Iran triggered a global flight to safe-haven assets.

"Markets remain on high alert following missile attacks by the Yemen-based Houthi group against Israel over the weekend," said currency and commodity analyst Ibrahim Assuaibi, as cited by antaranews.com

The 22-point depreciation followed reports of the Houthi movement opening new fronts in the Red Sea, intensifying geopolitical risks across the region. This instability is further compounded by the deployment of thousands of US troops to the Middle East, signaling a potential expansion of the conflict.

Domestic markets were also pressured by bearish US economic data, including a drop in consumer sentiment and rising inflation expectations. Bank Indonesia’s JISDOR rate reflected this downward trend, weakening to Rp 16,993 per dollar as investors braced for prolonged volatility in the global financial landscape.
