Inp.polri.go.id - Makassar. Mexianus Bekabel, the Head of the National Search and Rescue (Basarnas) Office in Makassar, has confirmed a rise in the number of victims following a landslide on the main road of Bonglo Village, North Bastem, Luwu Regency, South Sulawesi.
The total number of victims now stands at 23 individuals, up from the initial count of 15, antaranews.com reported.
The search and rescue operation for the landslide disaster has mobilized 560 personnel from various agencies, including the military, police, government, organizations, and local communities.
"We are earnestly hoping that all landslide victims can be located soon," Mexianus said on Wednesday (28/2/2024).
As the Search Mission Coordinator, he said mentioned that search and rescue teams have been scouring both the southern and northern parts of the landslide area.
"Today's team movement involves various search and rescue capabilities, combing through the southern and northern areas of the landslide," he explained.
Furthermore, thermal drones have been deployed for assessment and search purposes, while heavy excavation equipment from the Public Works and Housing Department is clearing the landslide debris.
" The South Sulawesi Police K9 team is conducting searches in the landslide zone," Mexianus added.
Meanwhile, the Joint SAR Team has relocated survivors with injuries from the Bastem Community Health Center to the Palopo Regional General Hospital for further medical treatment.
He emphasized that the Joint SAR Command Post remains operational 24/7 to receive reports from residents who believe they have lost family members or relatives during the landslide incident.
