Inp.polri.go.id - Palembang.  The South Sumatra Regional Police have trained 180 officers to handle forest and land fires  in anticipation of the 2025 dry season.

“The three-day training involves eight instructors and personnel from various units including Brimob, Ditsamapta, and local police precincts,” said South Sumatral Operations Chief, Senior Superintendent Anis Prasetio Santoso on Tuesday (6/8/2025), as quoted by antaranews.com.

The training, held at Jakabaring Sport City, covers mitigation, reporting, and law enforcement. It also includes firefighting techniques provided by Manggala Agni and the Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD).

Officers involved will join ground task forces coordinated by the governor, alongside the military and other agencies. As of July 2025, 232 fire hotspots have been detected across South Sumatra, mostly outside corporate lands.

“If fire outbreaks occur, these trained officers will be deployed immediately,” Chief Anis added.
