inp.polri.go.id - South Sumatra. The South Sumatra Regional Police strengthened its contribution to the national food self-sufficiency program by simultaneously planting garlic across five sub-regional police regions. With a total area of 81 hectares and a production target of 810 tons, South Sumatra is one of the largest contributors to this national movement.

The planting was led by South Sumatra Regional Police Chief, Inspector General Sandi Nugroho, in the plantation area of Hamlet 3, Gunung Agung Village, Semende Darat Tengah District, Mua Enim Regency.

This garlic planting program is part of the Indonesian National Police (INP)'s support for the government's goal of strengthening national food self-sufficiency. Garlic is a strategic commodity, as national demand remains highly dependent on imported supplies.

The South Sumatra Regional Police have prepared 81 hectares of land spread across five police precincts. The program involves 113 farmers from 14 farmer groups.

Three varieties of garlic seeds are being used in this simultaneous planting: Sangga Sembalun, Lumbu Hijau, and Lumbu Putih. The entire land is being prepared to support the production target of 810 tons, planned for harvest in November 2026.

In his report to the INP Chief, Sandi stated that the program received support from the Governor of South Sumatra, the Regional Leadership Communication Forum (Forkopimda), the Agriculture Service, academics from Sriwijaya University, the South Sumatra Regional Bhayangkari, and Implementation of Agricultural Modernization Center for South Sumatra.

South Sumatra Regional Police Public Relations Chief, Senior Superintendent Nandang Mu'min Wijaya, emphasized that their involvement in the garlic self-sufficiency program represents concrete support for the national food security agenda.

"The South Sumatra Regional Police, together with all stakeholders, will continue to monitor the planting, maintenance, and harvesting processes. The goal is not only to increase garlic production but also to provide benefits to farmers and gradually help reduce dependence on imports," said Nandang Mu'min Wijaya.
