inp.polri.go.id - Papua. The Papua Regional Police Special Crimes Investigation Unit, have successfully uncovered a case of misuse of subsidized fuel at the UPJA Center Bina Tani warehouse in Amun Kay Village, Tanah Miring District, Merauke. 

The disclosure was made during a press conference held on Monday (4/27/2026) at 11:00 a.m. and led by the Head of Sub-Directorate IV of the Special Crimes Investigation Unit, Police Assistant Superintendent Agus Ferinando Pombos.

The case was uncovered after the police conducted an operation on April 16, 2026. The investigation uncovered the illegal transportation and trade of diesel and Pertalite fuel, which allegedly took place from February 1, 2026, to April 16, 2026. Two suspects, identified as MR and MS, are currently being prosecuted.

Agus explained that the perpetrators used invalid recommendation letters intended for farmers. The subsidized fuel was then purchased at several gas stations, illegally stored in warehouses using multiple tanks, and then resold above the highest retail price through mini gas station dispensers.

During the raid, investigators confiscated evidence including one mini gas station dispenser, 1,700 liters of diesel fuel in four profile tanks, a pump, hoses, drums, funnels, and bundles of illegal transaction records and recommendation letters. Based on coordination with the Oil and Gas Regulatory Agency (BPH Migas), the estimated state loss is IDR 197,890,000.

The suspects are being charged under Article 55 of Law No. 22 of 2001 concerning Oil and Gas, as amended by Law No. 6 of 2023 concerning Job Creation. "We will take firm action against any misuse of subsidized fuel and urge the public to immediately report any similar practices," stated Police Commissioner Agus Ferinando Pombos on Monday (April 27, 2026).
