President Prabowo Subianto is targeting 1,386 Red and White Fishermen's Villages (KNMP) to be established and run by the end of December 2026, as an effort to improve the welfare of fishermen while optimizing Indonesia's maritime economic potential.
Coordinating Minister for Food Affairs Zulkifli Hasan (Zulhas) stated that the Red and White Fishermen's Village Program (KNMP) established by the Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries aims to transform the lives of fishermen and improve community welfare.
Head of the Government Communications Agency (Bakom), Muhammad Qodari, emphasized that evaluation is a crucial part of governance to ensure all priority programs are implemented effectively and provide tangible benefits to the public.
Indonesia introduced the Red and White Fishermen's Village (KNMP) in Lateng, Banyuwangi, to the ASEAN-ID Blue delegation as an example of Indonesia's blue economy implementation, integrating economic empowerment of fishermen, cooperatives, MSMEs, and community-based tourism.
