Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. Bekasi Metropolitan Sub-regional police have determined that the driver of a Green SM taxi was negligent in the fatal collision with a commuter train at Bekasi Timur station on 27 April 2026.

“The cause of the accident was driver negligence,” said Bekasi Police Traffic Unit Chief Senior Inspector Gefri Agitia onThursday (21/5/2026), as reported by antaranews.com. 

Witnesses reported the taxi stalled on the tracks just as a commuter train approached, leading to a deadly impact.

The incident killed 16 people and injured dozens. The stalled taxi triggered a chain reaction: after the initial collision, a halted commuter train was struck from behind by the Argo Bromo Anggrek express.

Police have questioned multiple witnesses, including the taxi driver, gatekeeper, and train operators. The driver faces charges under Article 310 of the Traffic Law, which covers negligence causing accidents.

Authorities confirmed the taxi’s electrical system failure caused it to stop on the tracks. The crash highlighted ongoing safety concerns at level crossings in urban areas.
