inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. A joint SAR team discovered a body believed to be the son of Valencia CF women's soccer coach Martin Carreras Fernando on Tuesday (1/6/2026). The body was found in the hull of the Putri Sakinah pinisi boat, which ran aground in the waters off Pede Beach, Komodo Island, Komodo National Park.

The discovery of the body was first reported by fishermen fishing nearby. The information was then passed on to the joint SAR team for evacuation.

This was conveyed by Fathur Rahman, Head of the Maumere National Search and Rescue Agency (Basarnas) Office and SAR Mission Coordinator, at the Labuan Bajo Marina Port Post. 

"The information about the discovery was provided by fishermen who found one victim along with the hull of the boat," he said.

The body was then evacuated to Labuan Bajo and taken to Komodo Hospital for identification by the police's Inafis forensic team. Basarnas has not yet been able to confirm the victim's identity, gender, or clothing.

"The body was swollen, so its physical characteristics are still unclear. The body was immediately placed in a body bag upon discovery," said Fathur.

According to Basarnas data, the body was found approximately 7.48 nautical miles, or about 14 kilometers, from the initial location of the sinking. The KM Putri Sakinah sank in the waters of the Padar Island Strait, Komodo National Park, Labuan Bajo, West Manggarai, on Friday (12/26/2025).

"The body was found approximately 7.48 nautical miles from the sinking ship location," explained Fathur. Fernando's two sons, aged 9 and 10, were previously reported missing.

This discovery marks the third body recovered by the joint SAR team during the 12-day search operation. If identification confirms that the body found is one of Fernando's sons, the team still has to find one more missing child.
