inp.polri.go.id – Jakarta. Police, as the law enforcement of the state, has to work carefully in enforcing the law.
The jargon "it's useless to report to the police" is something that is often seen or written on social media. In line with that, another sentence, "the report must go viral first before there is legal action" which is attached to the Polri institution, has also often seen in the virtual world recently.
Both seem to be harsh criticisms of the Police, who considered slacking off by the public in handling a case.
Head of the Public Relations Division (Kadiv Humas) of the National Police (Polri), Inspector General Prof. Dr. Dedi Prasetyo, M.Hum., M.Si., M.M., when appearing as a guest star on Dedy Cobuzier's podcast, admitted that his institution obviously is not a perfect organization. Even so, Polri under the leadership of General Listyo Sigit Prabowo, is an organization that is open to criticism and strive to be better. Inputs from all elements of society are always well received by the Police.
Communication expert, Rahmat Edi Irawan, sees the viral phenomenon of criticism to the Police as proof of how powerful social media in building an image or portraying the image of a person or institution.
"Actually, the number of cases where ‘it's useless to report to the police’ and cases that ‘has to go viral first before taking legal action’ are not as many as reports that have been handled by the police. However, the strength of social media is that it can make few voices louder," said Rahmat. Eddie.
